Introducing ShapeUp Club’s barcode scanner – Beep!

Today we’re making it possible for ALL of our users to quickly and easily scan in food to the Diary with our new barcode scanner! The new version is available to download for free on App Store and Google Play.

Please note! At the moment there are only a few barcodes that are accessible because everything is so brand new. If you scan and don’t get a hit, search for the product exactly as you normally would and add it in your Diary. The more you scan, the more barcodes are tied to the right product.

The Barcode Hunt! (The contest has now ended)

The contest has now ended, here are the winners: http://blog.shapeupclub.com/2012/09/winners-of-the-barcode-hunt-contest/

The contest popup in the app will be removed in the next update coming out in middle of September.

In conjunction with the launch of this new version and the collecting of barcodes, we’re starting up the contest: The Barcode Hunt.  The member who scans the most products wins an iPad and a lifetime gold membership at ShapeUp Club!

The contest runs until August 31 and three winners will be selected! Here is the winners’ podium:

1st prize:

Additional News

Besides the barcode scanner, this update includes two new features

  • The ability to share with your friends on Facebook what you have eaten (optional!)
  • Add food in your Diary more quickly. Instead of jumping back to the first page in the journal, there is now a pop up where you can see the total amount of calories you have consumed and even choose if you want to continue adding food or return to the Diary page.  Smooth is the word!

We at ShapeUp Club hope that you will benefit from these fantastic new possibilities!

Many glad, sunny and summery greetings,

Tove, Martin and the ShapeUp Club team!

  1. I would love the option to change the food data on my own in the database. Because I don’t think you have the time to change everyhing alone. The same food exists very often several times in the database.

    • I agree 100%, give us at least the option to save a modified version. Because some items (I know a lot of specific cases) have outdated information, missing data, or simply all out wrong. You should really (now that you have a huge database) think about how to manage it and keep it authentic and clean.

      • I agree. There is a huge amount of foods/drinks in the database which clearly has wrong information connected to it.
It’s quite annoying that I can’t delete it or even better “report” it in a single click, so the shapeup-crew can assess wether to remove it or not.

  2. When a scanned barcode shows the wrong item, what to do?
I scanned a can of SUGAR FREE PowerKing energy drink (10 kcal) and it comes up as a regular PowerKing (110 kcal).

    • You can change incorrect barcodes by tapping on the “i” (information) button when you have scanned the food. Scroll down to the bottom of the page that appear and tap on the red button “change barcode”, and search for the correct entry. I hope this helps! Thank you for helping us collect and correct the barcodes =)

  3. Hej

Thank you for the Barcodescan function it’s awesome. We would like the background to be the grassy hill again it’s much more pleasing than this awful monotone blue.

Thanks for your great work! Keep up the good job all of you gals and guys are doing!
You are making the world a better place…

    Kind regards

    Daniel Ammann

    • Thank you, that’s very kind of you! We are really happy you like the barcode scanner update! The green and grassy hills probably won’t appear again, but the “hideous” blue might be adjusted in the future =)

    • If you scan a barcode and get no match, tap on the search button in the popup that appears. Search for the right food to this barcode and select it from the search-result. If you can’t find a good match in the search-result you need to create a new food, and you can do this from “My things” – “Create new food”.

  4. As others have said, if you make it really easy to report errors, mulitplie copies of the same item, the database will be much more correct!

And it would be nice if the current leader of the competition is published… ;-)

  5. Hey

I just love this. But how do I correct the barcode if there is a error in the calorie info??

For eksampel i scanned Fanta Orange and i got this result: 100 ml is 30 Calories but the nutritional content on my bottel is telling me that 100 ml is 43 calories – then im missing 13 calories on the app..

It would be nice if i could choose witch barcode i would use, so i can get the rigth calories count or/and could error reporting the wrong nutritional content

    /Patrik
